Tunisia begin their quest for redemption this week after being knocked out of the group stage of the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire earlier this year.

The Carthage Eagles were drawn alongside Mali, South Africa and Namibia and failed to win any of their matches, drawing two after a shock opening defeat to Namibia.

Since then, the North Africans have produced a mixed bag of results, holding Croatia and New Zealand to goalless friendlies in March, beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with the Brave Warriors in their World Cup qualifier in June.

Following their recent goalless draw with Namibia, the Tunisian Football Association appointed Faouzi Benzarti to lead the team back to continental glory, and the former Club Africain and Wydad coach will take charge of the Carthage Eagles for the first time this week.

Tunisia have a rich history in the competition, having qualified for the main event more than 20 times in their history, but have not won the title in two decades, although they have reached the quarter-finals in seven of their last 10 attempts.

Meanwhile, Madagascar will see this game as a chance for revenge, as it was this very opponent that knocked them out of the only Africa Cup of Nations main tournament they have ever qualified for in their history in 2018-19.

Since then, Barea have failed to make much of an impact in qualifying, with the last edition ending with the team failing to win any of their six group games, drawing three and losing three.

However, Barea have been in decent form of late and currently sit third in Group I with seven points from four games, two behind Ghana and Comoros.

Romuald Rakotondrabe's side are unbeaten in their last three matches, including wins over Chad and Comoros, while they drew 0-0 at home to Mali in mid-June.
