Villarreal finished last season in eighth place, missing out on European competition. However, in the new season, the "Yellow Submarine" is determined to return to European football. From the outset, Marcelino García Toral's team has shown they are ready to achieve this goal, despite the departure of their top scorer, Alexander Sørloth.
In their season opener, Villarreal twice led against Atlético Madrid in the first half but eventually settled for a 2-2 draw. In their previous game, Villarreal snatched a last-minute victory away against Sevilla, with new signing Ayoze Pérez scoring the decisive goal in the 90+5 minute.
Last season was a real test for Celta, who narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga. They began the season under the legendary Rafael Benítez, but spent most of the campaign in the relegation zone. Celta was later managed by former youth coach Claudio Giráldez, who successfully steered them to safety, finishing in 13th place.
Celta has started the new season brilliantly. In the first round, they came from behind to secure a victory over Alavés, despite trailing 0-1 at halftime. In the second round, Celta confidently defeated Valencia 3-1 at home.
