PSG, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, began their title defense with a late 4-1 victory over Le Havre. Despite a shaky start, with Ousmane Dembélé securing the win in the 85th minute, the champions added further goals through Bradley Barcola and Randal Kolo Muani. Although PSG topped the standings temporarily, they were overtaken by Marseille, who won 5-1 at Brest. Despite their recent away success, PSG's home form last season was lackluster, winning only nine of 17 league games at home.
Montpellier HSC, finishing 12th last season, had a modest start this term with a 1-1 draw against Strasbourg, thanks to a penalty from Téji Savanier. The club, managed by Michel Der Zakarian, is expected to struggle against PSG, having lost their last 11 encounters with the Parisians while conceding 40 goals. Montpellier's focus might need to shift towards strengthening their squad before the transfer window closes to improve on their previous season’s performance and aim higher in the league.
