The Los Angeles Chargers will be getting some added insurance in their offensive backfield in time for the playoffs. Ezekiel Elliott, recently waived by the Dallas Cowboys, will be joining the team.

Elliott will reportedly start on the practice squad. but there is a high probability that he will be activated ahead of the team's Wild Card round game against the Houston Texans this Saturday. The Chargers are a team that wants to run the ball, but the options in the backfield have been thin this season.

Elliott, who wanted to play for a contender, will bring plenty of experience with him to Los Angeles.

Elliott spent seven seasons in Dallas after being the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 draft. He then went to the New England Patriots for one season before coming back to Dallas this year. He now joins the Chargers with over 9,000 career rushing yards and 60 touchdowns.

Ezekiel Elliott wanted to play for a championship

Elliott spent eight seasons with the Cowboys but he reportedly requested his release to have a chance to play in the playoffs this season. Now, he will get that.

Elliott played in six playoff games with the Cowboys and the team went 2-4 in those games.

He will have a chance to make an impact with the Chargers. While Jim Harbaugh probably won't be eager to greatly disrupt the backfield that he has, the team needs more support behind J.K. Dobbins. Gus Edwards has been hobbled by an ankle injury and if he is still feeling the affects of that heading into Saturday's game against the Texans, the Chargers could opt for more experience aside from just Kimani Vidal behind Dobbins.
