Napoli's Romelu Lukaku and Hvita Kvaratskhelia scored in the first half, giving the team a 2-0 win away to AC Milan on Tuesday. This extends their lead at the top of the Serie A standings to seven points.
Lukaku caught the home team off guard with his fourth goal of the season in the fifth minute. Napoli then added another goal two minutes before halftime thanks to Kvaratskhelia's fantastic shot, and Milan couldn't equalize.
This marks the fifth consecutive league win for Napoli, and Antonio Conte's team has now gone nine games unbeaten since suffering its only defeat in the season opener at Verona.
Napoli now has 25 points, which puts them ahead of defending champions Inter Milan, who are visiting Empoli on Wednesday. Milan is currently in eighth place with 14 points.
They had more energy going into the match after their game at Bologna on Saturday was postponed due to flood safety concerns, but Napoli got off to a good start. Andre Anguisa's pass found Lukaku between two defenders, and the striker easily got rid of Stracinja Pavlovic and took the ball into the box and fired a low shot into the far corner to give the visitors an early breakthrough.
Milan gave it their all to tie the game and had three chances in five minutes. Yunus Musa and Emerson Royal both shot wide, while Napoli goalkeeper Alex Merrett made a save to block Samuel Chukwueze's long-range shot.
Despite Milan's best efforts, Kvaratsklia cut in from the left, found space, and then fired a beautiful curling shot from outside the box that flew into the goal but was saved by Mike Maignan.
Alvaro Morata thought he'd scored an equaliser when Napoli pulled one back early in the second half, leaping high to head the ball past Meret. However, the Spanish striker was offside when Chukwueze crossed, so the goal was disallowed.
The second half was a bit slower with fewer chances, as Napoli kept their lead while Milan couldn't make the most of any opportunities. Substitute Rafael Leão forced Meret to make a fingertip save with a powerful shot in the box to keep the ball out. The Italian goalkeeper's performance was outstanding. In fact, it was his second-best game ever, according to the ratings after the game.
Napoli's amazing winning streak continues. Napoli had a rough start, conceding three goals in their opening game. But since then, they've only let in two. Despite some recent struggles, they've managed to secure tough 1-0 wins against Empoli and Lecce. Conte's team is currently sitting at the top of Serie A.
