Manchester City are set to bolster their ranks this January, with Pep Guardiola's side reportedly on track to sign New York City FC defender Christian McFarlane.
The 17-year-old defender is a dual-national for both the United States and England, and is eligible for both senior national teams. At the youth level, he has represented both countries, but has yet to commit his international future to one or the other. The news was first reported by Fabrizio Romano.
McFarlane made his senior debut in 2024, and in total, has made 13 appearances across all competitions for NYCFC this campaign. His biggest stretch came during the Leagues Cup, where he started five-straight matches for the Pigeons.
The 17-year-old recently made headlines when he was clocked to be the sixth-fastest player in the world - even surpassing Kylian Mbappe.
Man City secured the future transfer of Cavan Sullivan once he turns 18 as a clause in his Homegrown deal. Currently 15, the Philadelphia Union prospect won't be able to join the club for at least three years. McFarlane, meanwhile, turns 18 on Jan. 25, 2025.
NYCFC take on CF Montreal on Decision Day 2024 ahead of the MLS playoffs. The Pigeons and McFarlane are looking to end the campaign on a high note before they begin the postseason.
