Administrative problems forced Zimbabwe to miss out on the last AFCON qualifiers and they will be keen to make an impression this time around after being drawn in Group J alongside Kenya, Namibia and Cameroon.
Michael Nees' men got the ball rolling with a goalless stalemate against Kenya on Friday in a game in which neither side really did enough to earn maximum points, with just one shot on target for each side.
A second successive goalless draw would have been disappointing for the Warriors, but a third clean sheet in four games is certainly a cause for optimism for a team that has been so defensively porous this year.
Zimbabwe were conceded a staggering 10 times in their opening four games, losing three of them, with the exception of a penalty shoot-out triumph over Zambia in the Four Nations Football Tournament.
Despite nine previous meetings, Tuesday's clash will be the first AFCON qualifier between the two sides, although they met 20 years ago in the main competition when Zimbabwe were beaten 5-3 in the group stages.
Amidst a dramatic turn of events in the build-up to the match, Cameroon showed great grit to see off Namibia 1-0 at the Japoma Stadium in Douala.
A power struggle over the venue between Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o and Prime Minister Joseph Ngute threw Saturday's match into doubt before a resolution was reached just hours before kick-off.
AFCON 2022 top scorer Vincent Aboubakar struck 20 minutes from time to give Rigobert Song's side all three points in a hard-fought encounter.
As a result, the Indomitable Lions have now won two of their last three competitive matches, including a 1-1 draw with Angola in their last World Cup qualifier.
With their off-field problems showing no signs of abating any time soon, Cameroon will need to remain focused on the pitch as they look to qualify for a sixth consecutive AFCON after missing out in 2012 and 2013.
