Rwanda have only appeared at the AFCON once in their history, at Tunisia 2004, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage after a win, a draw and a defeat.
The Wasps began their quest to qualify for the 2025 edition with a 1-1 draw against Libya in Tripoli last Wednesday - Sobi Al Dawi gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute, but Innocent Nshuti equalised for Torsten Spittler's side early in the second half.
Wasps, now unbeaten in their last two games, will be looking to continue their good form under Spittler, who has only lost once in seven matches since taking charge in November, with three wins and three draws.
His next challenge, however, will be to help Rwanda secure a first win over their opponents on Tuesday, having failed to win any of their previous five meetings.
Augustine Eguavoen began his reign as interim Super Eagles boss with a convincing 3-0 win over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last Saturday.
Fresh from his Ballon d'Or nomination, Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman put Nigeria ahead with a brilliant solo goal on the stroke of half-time.
Galatasaray's new signing Victor Osimhen doubled the lead in the 78th minute with an unstoppable finish from a cross, before Lookman scored his second of the game in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.
The win ended a three-game winless streak for the Super Eagles and takes them to the top of Group D ahead of Tuesday's clash with Rwanda.
It will be the sixth meeting between the two sides, but the Super Eagles have the upper hand with two wins and three draws, including two in the 2012 AFCON qualifiers when the visitors drew away and won at home.
Rwanda possible starting lineup:
Ntwari; Omborenga, Mutsinzi, Manzi, Niyomugabo; Rebangouka, Bizimana; G Mugisha, Muhire, Kwizera; Nshuti
Nigeria possible starting lineup:
Nwabali; Ekong, Ajayi, Bassey; Aina, Ndidi, Iwobi, Onyemaechi; Lookman, Osimhen, Chukwueze
