Iceland failed to qualify for Euro 2024, losing 2-1 to Ukraine in the play-off final in March, meaning that they have only played in the finals of two major tournaments - a World Cup and a European Championship.
Our boys will be hoping to put together a strong qualifying campaign for 2026, but their immediate focus will be on the Nations League as they prepare to take on Montenegro, Turkey and Wales in that section.
Age Hareide's men were last seen in action on 10 June, when they were thrashed 4-0 by the Netherlands in a friendly, although they did manage to beat England 1-0 in a friendly earlier in the month.
As mentioned, Iceland finished second in Group 2 of League B in their last Nations League campaign, drawing all four of their matches against Israel and Albania.
The Icelanders have only faced Montenegro once, losing 2-1 to the Brave Falcons in a friendly in February 2012.
Montenegro finished third in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, missing out on the final of the recent European Championship, and have never qualified for a World Cup.
Robert Prosinecki's side were beaten twice by Belgium and Georgia in friendlies at the start of June, but won their first two matches of the year against Belarus and North Macedonia.
The Brave Falcons host Wales on 9 September in their second game in Group 4 of League B, before returning to action in October with matches against Turkey and Wales.
Montenegro were promoted from League C of the Nations League as a result of their performance in the 2020-21 competition and finished third in Group 3 of League B in 2022-23.
They have lost their last two matches in the competition to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Finland, and their last Nations League win was a 3-0 victory over Romania in June 2022.
