Warriors must finally trade for LeBron James amid dreadful season, Lakers struggles

Two of the game’s greatest players and former NBA Finals adversaries Stephen Curry and LeBron James are having a rough go of it so far in 2024-25.
Curry’s Golden State Warriors possess an 18-18 record and currently sit at the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference, while James’ Los Angeles Lakers find themselves as the No. 6 seed with a 20-16 record.
Golden State’s latest string of consecutive losses to the Sacramento Kings without De’Aaron Fox this past Sunday and the Miami Heat without Jimmy Butler on Tuesday night has left Curry and the rest of his group deflated.
James feels the same pain, as his Lakers fell to the Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving-less Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night.
Both future Hall-of-Famer’s careers have reached a low point despite how individually brilliant the two are for their age.
These two superstars are surrounded by inadequate supporting casts that have no chance of coming out of the Western Conference, leading many to an unavoidable conclusion.
Golden State’s general manager Mike Dunleavy should contact the Lakers to make a serious push to land James via trade, regardless of the cost.
The Warriors’ front office has to be feeling some pressure from Curry, as he’s made multiple statements in post-game press conferences where he shares his discontent with losing and his team’s overall performance.
“For all the reasons, it’s just not a great feeling,” Curry told reporters Tuesday night.
“We have nothing to show for it, nothing really to kind of latch onto as like, ‘Oh we’re doing this great, if we could only…’ It seems like both sides of the ball are struggling. It’s glaring how bad we can be at times.”
At 40 years old, James is averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.8 assists while still throwing down vicious left-handed windmill dunks over the contest of one of the league’s premier rim-protectors in Dallas’ Dereck Lively II.
While Curry’s numbers have dropped in season No. 16, the 36-year-old is still contributing 22.8 points and 6.1 assists while connecting on 42.3% of his 10.5 three-point attempts.
For sentimental purposes, it’s much more believable that James would make his way to Golden State instead of the other way around, as Curry’s desire to stay with the Warriors for his entire career would overpower the Lakers’ hopes to add the 2022 NBA Finals MVP.
In order to have both James and Curry compete for their fifth NBA title as teammates, Golden State would likely give up a gargantuan package including standout forward Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody and the salary of Andrew Wiggins along with a heaping amount of first-round draft compensation.
