Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 at home on Sunday thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernández and Cole Palmer. The win puts them in joint second place in the Premier League table.
The home side played freely and took advantage of an Aston Villa side that looked tired and made a lot of mistakes. They've now failed to win in eight games in all competitions.
Chelsea made their mark early on when striker Jackson neatly side-footed a Marc Cucurella cross from the left, knocking it in off the post in the seventh minute.
Enzo Maresca's side made the most of some shaky defending in the 36th minute when Fernández was set up by Palmer, took a moment to steady himself, and then fired it home between Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa.
Palmer was even better than his teammates, though, with an amazing left-foot shot that went into the top corner of the goal, past substitute goalkeeper Robin Olsen, in the 83rd minute.
England striker Ollie Watkins had the best chance for Villa, but Chelsea keeper Robert Sánchez closed him down one-on-one in the 15th minute.
In the last minute of the first half, he didn't quite make contact with the ball, leaving the goal at his mercy and Sanchez made the save.
Villa had to make a change at half-time after Emiliano Martínez injured himself diving to retrieve a ball he'd passed to Jackson. They brought on Robin Olsen instead. Villa had drawn 0-0 with Juventus in midweek in the Champions League.
Chelsea's substitutes could have added to the score late on, but for a double save by Olsen from João Félix and Noni Madueke, followed by an attempt from Christopher Nkunku who sent his shot wide.
Chelsea are now joint second, on par with Arsenal in terms of points and goal difference, ahead of the late kick-off between the league leaders Liverpool and Manchester City. Villa are now in 11th place.
