Watford have sent best wishes to their all-time record goalscorer and appearance maker Luther Blissett after he was taken ill at the weekend.
According to the My Local Hero charity, the 66-year-old Blissett was taken to hospital after collapsing following an auction event at the Grove Hotel in Watford on Saturday.
Watford chairman and chief executive Scott Duxbury said: “Luther and all of his loved ones know they have our full support. We will do all we can to help.”
The club added in a statement: “Everyone connected with Watford FC would like to wish Luther the fullest possible recovery.”
The Jamaican-born Blissett began his career at Watford, the first of three spells with the club in a career that also saw him represent AC Milan and Bournemouth amongst others.
He helped the Hornets win promotion from the Fourth Division to the First Division, and scored 186 goals in 503 appearances.
He also played for England 14 times, scoring a hat-trick on his debut in a 9-0 win over Luxembourg, although those proved to be his only international goals.
