Lazio legend and retired Italy international Bruno Giordano, who scored 116 goals in 258 games for the capital outfit, has shared insights into Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's best playing position as the team prepares for their upcoming match against Bologna.
Giordano noted that Dele-Bashiru's ideal position is an attacking midfielder, a position he regularly plays for the Nigeria national team, but he can also step into a central midfield role when the situation demands it.
Dele-Bashiru, who has faced challenges since joining Lazio, participated in Nigeria's national team match against Rwanda, where the Super Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat in Uyo.
Despite a promising start to his Lazio career, where he played the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 victory over Venezia, the Manchester City academy graduate has struggled to secure a consistent spot in the squad, featuring in only seven matches across all competitions and netting just one goal.
In an interview with Radio Laziale via noibiancocelesti, Giordano emphasized Dele-Bashiru's strengths, stating, "I think Dele-Bashiru can be a midfielder only in an emergency and is more naturally, as we also see with the Nigerian national team, a player accustomed to playing in the three-quarters, in case of absences in midfield he can be an alternative in case of various injuries."
Giordano revealed that Dele-Bashiru could serve as a valuable alternative in central midfield during times of injury, but highlighted the importance of tactical flexibility, mentioning that players like Matías Vecino can also play in an advanced role depending on the match situation and the coach's strategy.
"He is a player inclined to play facing the opponent's goal, he can be adaptable but Vecino can also play in the three-quarters," he stated.
"It depends on the type of match and the choices the coach wants to make, the important thing is to have players who allow you to change."
As Lazio looked to continue its impressive form before the international break, the insights from Giordano could prove crucial in determining how Dele-Bashiru is utilized on the pitch.
