Portugal made it through to the next stage of the UEFA Nations League with a big win over Poland in Porto, scoring five goals in the second half. Poland came out strong in the first half, putting pressure on Portugal's goal but couldn't quite convert it into a goal. Portugal really found their stride in the second half, with a brace from captain Cristiano Ronaldo and goals from Rafael Leao, Bruno Fernandes and Pedro Neto securing top spot in Group A1.

Leao put the hosts ahead just before the 60th minute, dribbling from deep before meeting Nuno Mendes' cross and heading home a brilliant run from inside the box to make it 1-0.

Ronaldo made it 2-0 with a penalty, and then Fernandes got on the end of a cross from the edge of the box and hit the underside of the crossbar.

Neto made it 4-0 with a great shot from inside the box, and captain Ronaldo's overhead kick from close range was a fantastic 5-0. The 39-year-old has now scored five goals in five games for Portugal's National League and is the A-League's top scorer.

The visitors managed to pull one back with a shot from Dominik Marchuk, but it was only a consolation goal with two minutes left.

Portugal knew a win would be enough to secure a place in the quarter-finals, but with Scotland having beaten Croatia in their other group match, the win ensured top spot for Martinez's side.

Next up,Portugal will play away against Croatia while Poland will face Scotland at home. Both Poland and Scotland currently have 4 points in total. Poland is temporarily ranked bottom of the group due to the disadvantage of goal difference. The two sides need a victory to ensure that they continue to stay in the UEFA Nations League A competition.
