Cardiff vs Plymouth

Match preview

While a change in the Cardiff dugout was inevitable given the club's poor run of form, supporters would not have expected Omer Riza to remain in charge for more than three weeks.

Instead, the Cardiff hierarchy decided to stick with the caretaker boss after he guided the club to four points from his first three games in charge.

At the start of October, Cardiff finally got a win on the board, beating Millwall 1-0, before holding Bristol City to a respectable 1-1 draw.

For the first time since March, the Bluebirds have gone two games in a row without defeat, which is a step in the right direction given their position at the foot of the table.

They are now four points clear of 18th place and with fellow strugglers Portsmouth visiting the Cardiff City Stadium after this game, there is a real opportunity to get their season back on track.

Head Coach Wayne Rooney applauds the fans at full-time.

As for Plymouth, their supporters will be delighted with the way Rooney has taken to life at Home Park, taking 11 points from his first nine games.

Their home form has been key, with Sunderland, Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers all beaten between the September and October international breaks.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of their performances has been in defence, with the Pilgrims having conceded more than once in their last eight games.

Furthermore, their only two defeats in five matches have come by 1-0 scorelines at West Bromwich Albion and Burnley, underlining the fact that this is a group of players who are competitive in every game they play.

However, with just one point and one goal from four away games, there is still plenty of room for improvement.
