Trent Alexander-Arnold has been warned that one current Real Madrid star may not be happy if the Liverpool full-back moves to Santiago Bernabeu.
The Reds star has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield, sparking reports of a possible free transfer next summer. Real Madrid have emerged as the main contenders to sign him, though the full-back could still commit to a new deal with Liverpool.
However, a move to the Spanish capital would not make everyone happy, Jamie Carragher says, as the Liverpool legend pointed out that legendary right-back Dani Carvajal would not give up his spot in the starting XI at Santiago Bernabeu so easily.
Speaking about Alexander-Arnold's situation on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "I think Carvajal would have something to say about it as well, with people talking about Trent. He’s only won the European Cup six times and the Euros in the summer, so I don’t think he’d be too happy about it."
On the subject of the England star staying or leaving, he said: "It’s a case of: ‘What do you want for the rest of your life?’ He’s in the dream position as a footballer – 25 years of age, one year left on your contract, he could see how this year goes, he can wait until Christmas, I’m sure there will already be some dialogue with other clubs, let’s be honest, that’s how it works. It will be interesting how it plays out."
Liverpool will hope to tie Alexander-Arnold - along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk - to a new contract over the next year. However, new coach Arne Slot said it will be up to the player to make his mind on his future.
