Last season, Cagliari managed to retain their place in Italy's top division. The team gathered 36 points over 38 rounds, finishing 16th in the table, just one point ahead of the 18th-placed team. This offseason, Cagliari signed four new players, with Sebastiano Luperto from Empoli being their most expensive acquisition. In four preseason friendlies, Cagliari won twice, lost once, and drew once.
The new season started quite well for the Rossoblu. First, they convincingly defeated Carrarese 3-1 in the Coppa Italia. In the opening round of Serie A, Cagliari faced Roma. Despite the Giallorossi being the favorites, Cagliari played solidly and managed to hold on for a 0-0 draw.
For the first time since the 2002/03 season, Como has returned to Italy's top football division. The team, coached by the legendary Cesc Fàbregas, has had a very active summer. They completed several high-profile transfers, including Alberto Moreno, Pepe Reina, Raphaël Varane, and Sergi Roberto. The team played six friendlies, winning three, losing two, and drawing one.
Despite this, Como didn’t start the season very successfully. In their first official match, they lost 1-2 to Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia. In the first round of Serie A, Como suffered a comprehensive 0-3 defeat to Juventus.
