According to Mundo Deportivo, Fermin Lopez has expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona this summer, despite significant interest from leading European clubs and a substantial €80 million (£68m/$92m) offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal. The 22-year-old La Masia graduate is being targeted by Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Al-Hilal. Chelsea even suggested a swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku, which Barcelona declined. Nonetheless, Fermin is dedicated to furthering his career at the club he has always aspired to succeed with.
Barcelona's financial situation remains challenging. Selling Fermin could alleviate pressures related to La Liga's financial fair play regulations and assist in registering players like Joan Garcia or acquiring targets such as Nico Williams. However, parting with a homegrown talent who has a €500 million (£425m/$575m) release clause would undermine the club's long-term rebuilding strategy under Hansi Flick. Despite limited playing time under Xavi, Flick views the Spanish midfielder as a distinctive asset in the squad and is eager to keep him.
Hansi Flick, Barcelona's manager, is strongly supporting Fermin's retention. Even though he had minimal involvement last season, the German coach regards the midfielder as tactically essential. This backing is a major factor in Fermin's decision to stay.
Fermin extended his contract in 2023 until June 2029, including a €500 million release clause. Currently, Lopez is set to remain at the Catalan club. Nevertheless, with Barcelona requiring financial flexibility to register new players, the scenario is still evolving. Al-Hilal's offer remains a possibility, and Bayern's interest continues, but Fermin's resolve, reinforced by Flick's endorsement, may favor his ongoing presence.
