Chelsea even suggested a swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku, which Barcelona declined. Nonetheless, Fermin is dedicated to furthering his career at the club he has always aspired to succeed with.

Barcelona's financial situation remains challenging. Selling Fermin could alleviate pressures related to La Liga's financial fair play regulations and assist in registering players like Joan Garcia or acquiring targets such as Nico Williams. However, parting with a homegrown talent who has a €500 million (£425m/$575m) release clause would undermine the club's long-term rebuilding strategy under Hansi Flick. Despite limited playing time under Xavi, Flick views the Spanish midfielder as a distinctive asset in the squad and is eager to keep him.
