Barcelona's sporting director Deco has indicated that Spain winger Nico Williams is showing a strong desire to transfer from Athletic Club to Camp Nou.
Recent reports indicate that Williams has become Barcelona's top target after Deco met with the player's agent, Felix Tainta, last week.
"We need to bolster this position," Deco told Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia. "As wingers, we only have Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. From there, potential names depend on price and quality.
"Nico was considered last year, but at that time, Dani Olmo was our priority. Now, like other players, Nico is expressing a strong desire to join ... And if the conditions are right, we'll pursue the deal.
"Any signing involves a process: discussions with agents, clubs, and understanding the contractual situation ... Nico's case is straightforward because he has a release clause. We've met with his agent to gauge his intentions and will assess if it's feasible."
Deco mentioned to ESPN last month that Barcelona aims to add another winger, with sources noting that Williams, Luis Díaz, Marcus Rashford, and Ivan Perišić are among the candidates, depending on the budget.
Barcelona attempted to sign Williams, who played a pivotal role in Spain's Euro 2024 victory, last summer, but the deal fell through due to uncertainties regarding his LaLiga registration.
He has a release clause of approximately €58 million ($66.7 million).
