Slovenia vs Bosnia H'vina

Match preview

Matjaž Kek's Slovenia performed inconsistently in the UEFA Nations League earlier this year, but they won their relegation play-off against Slovakia in March and have since secured another victory.

On Friday, Reprezentacija kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Luxembourg. However, despite the result, Kek will be concerned that his team only managed one shot on target against a team ranked 91^(st) by FIFA.

Looking ahead to the World Cup qualifiers, Slovenia have been drawn in Group B alongside Kosovo, Sweden and Switzerland. They will be keen to build on their momentum going into those tough fixtures by securing another win this week.

In this regard, the hosts could take heart from their commendable home record, featuring two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five home games, as well as their consistent resilience on home turf, having been defeated just once in the last three years as the nominal home team.

Another victory on Tuesday would extend Slovenia's current unbeaten run to five matches, putting them in a strong position ahead of their first World Cup qualifier against Sweden in September.

Meanwhile, Bosnia-Herzegovina, managed by Sergej Barbarez, have already begun their World Cup qualifying campaign in excellent form, earning nine points from three games.

Zmajevi's most recent victory came on Saturday, when they dominated San Marino, not allowing them a single shot on target while having six themselves.

However, the manager will be concerned that his team could only score once against the lowest-ranked national side in FIFA's rankings, although the influential striker Edin Džeko proved that he can make a difference when it matters.

Three points at the weekend moved Barbarez's men six points clear at the top of Group H, after second-placed Romania lost their last match. They are already well-positioned to qualify for the 2026 tournament.

A triumph on Tuesday would mark Bosnia-Herzegovina's fourth consecutive win, but given that they have won only one of their last seven away games, losing five and drawing the other, fans may have doubts about the outcome.

Team News

Tamar Svetlin, Slovenia's match winner against Luxembourg, should start on the left flank this week, alongside Sandi Lovrić and Petar Stojanović behind striker Blaz Kramer. Kramer is expected to start up top once again, with Benjamin Sesko out injured.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Jan Oblak did not play in his team's match at the weekend, and he may remain on the bench on Tuesday ahead of Atlético Madrid's participation in the Club World Cup later this month.

As for Bosnia-Herzegovina, centre-backs Adnan Kovačević and Nikola Katić were injured against San Marino. Ermin Bičakčić could be partnered by Tarik Muharemović in the heart of Barbarez's defence this time.

Full-backs Arjan Malic and Dzenis Burnic should provide overlapping runs to support Samed Bazdar and Ermedin Demirovic in attack.
