Georgia vs Cape Verde

Match preview

Georgia's most recent competitive fixture was in March, when they faced Armenia in a UEFA Nations League relegation/promotion play-off.

Following a commanding 3-0 away win, the Crusaders secured their place in League B with a dominant 6-1 victory in the home leg.

With one eye on the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign in September, Georgia will be looking to build on their recent success. Willy Sagnol’s side are set to compete in a challenging group alongside Spain, Turkey and Bulgaria.

They are set to take momentum into their qualifying bid after following their two wins over Armenia with a narrow 1-0 victory against the Faroe Islands on Thursday, courtesy of Luka Lochoshvili’s first-half goal.

They will be feeling confident about their chances of achieving another positive result on Sunday, having won six, drawn three and lost just one of their last 10 home internationals.

Cape Verde will be pleased with their results in 2024, having won three of their four matches in the current calendar year, including two World Cup qualifiers in March.

Bubista’s team recorded a narrow 1–0 home win against Mauritius before edging out Angola with a 2–1 victory, putting them one point clear at the top of Group D with four games left in the second qualifying stage.

The Blue Sharks will resume their qualifying campaign in September, but in the meantime they are keeping themselves ticking over with three friendly fixtures.

Cape Verde have already played two of these matches during the international window: they played out a 1-1 draw with Malaysia before clinching a 3-0 win against the same opponents a few days later.

They will be hoping to produce another strong performance in their first match against Georgia, with the visitors aiming to extend their unbeaten run to five games since losing to Mauritania in November.
