Getafe vs Celta Vigo

Match preview

Getafe go into Saturday's final day of the La Liga season aiming to end the campaign with back-to-back victories, having ended a dismal run last time out.

After a losing run at the end of the 2023-24 campaign saw them drop to an eventual 12th-placed finish, the Azulones find themselves 13th with one game remaining, having picked up 42 points from their 37 outings — winning 11 and losing 17.

Having sat 11th on 39 points from 30 matches, they again looked set to end the term in a slump after a run of six straight defeats between mid-April and mid-May. During this period, they conceded 11 goals and only scored once, culminating in a 3-0 defeat at Valencia and a 2-0 home loss to Athletic Bilbao.

José Bordalás's side finally ended their losing streak last weekend when they visited Mallorca on Sunday and secured a 2-1 victory. They led by two goals thanks to Mauro Arambarri and Christantus Uche, before Cyle Larin scored for the hosts in injury time.

Now just three points behind 12th-placed Valencia, with a superior goal difference, and one point ahead of 14th-placed Alavés, Getafe will aim to end their campaign on a high with a win on the final day to secure back-to-back victories.

However, they face a tough test as the visitors arrive at the Estadio Coliseum aiming to secure their Europa League qualification in what has been a strong season.

Celta Vigo head into the final day in seventh place in La Liga, aiming for their first appearance on the continental stage since the 2016–17 season, when they reached the Europa League semi-finals.

After three consecutive bottom-half finishes in Spain's top division, Los Celestes have made a strong showing this season, earning 52 points from 37 matches, with 15 wins and 15 losses.

Claudio Giráldez's side moved into a strong position in the fight for the final Europa League spot with back-to-back wins over Sevilla and Real Sociedad in mid-May. However, they failed to secure seventh place in their last match against fellow top-seven contenders Rayo Vallecano, despite Marcos Alonso's early goal. Isi Palazón and Jorge de Frutos then turned the game around for the visitors, securing a 2-1 victory for Rayo Vallecano.

Now leading Rayo Vallecano by only a single point, Celta Vigo will need to win away on Saturday to guarantee their spot in next season's Europa League group stage, ending an eight-year wait.

Team News

Getafe are expected to field a similar starting XI to last week's winning team against Mallorca, with Alex Sola still sidelined by injury.

However, they have two new selection concerns: midfielder Luis Milla is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards and defender Domingos Duarte may be out of action after being substituted at the hour mark in that game.

Duarte could be replaced by Juan Berrocal in a back four, while Yellu Santiago may join key player Mauro Arambarri in midfield and Ramón Terrats should again partner Borja Mayoral up front.

Celta Vigo will be without defender Carl Starfelt and midfielder Jailson on Saturday due to ongoing injuries.

Pablo Durán was chosen to lead the line last time, but he faces competition from top scorers Borja Iglesias and veteran Iago Aspas. The latter has scored 150 goals and provided 61 assists in the last 10 La Liga campaigns for Los Celestes.

Former Barcelona player Óscar Mingueza provides important attacking support from a wing-back position, while Ilaix Moriba — who spent last season on loan with Getafe — and Fran Beltrán are likely to continue their midfield partnership.

Possible starting lineup

Getafe possible starting lineup:

Soria; Nyom, Alderete, Berrocal, Rico; Iglesias, Arambarri, Milla, Uche; Terrats, Mayoral

Celta Vigo possible starting lineup:

Guaita; Rodriguez, Lago, Alonso; Mingueza, Moriba, Beltran, Ristic; Lopez, Aspas, Swedberg
