Last season's runners-up, Brøndby narrowly missed the title, leading into the final matchday before losing by a single point due to a defeat against Aarhus.
This season, the Vestegnen club has not replicated that performance and sits fourth in the Championship round, tied on 48 points with third-placed Randers, who edge ahead on goal difference.
Although they finished the regular season in sixth, Frederik Birk's team entered the playoffs strongly, securing four wins and scoring ten goals in their first five matches, but they have since struggled, enduring three games without a win and failing to score in two of them.
They did score twice in their latest match, however, drawing 2-2 away to Nordsjaelland, where the 11-time Superliga champions fought back from a goal down to take the lead, only to concede an equalizer two minutes before the end.
Seeking to regain their form, Brøndby draws confidence from their recent dominance over Midtjylland, having won the last four meetings in league and cup, including a 2-0 victory at the start of the playoff round, though their home record is worrisome.
Birk's team has secured only two wins in their last six league games at home, with three draws and one loss, the latter being a 3-0 defeat to Copenhagen in their most recent home fixture.
Meanwhile, Midtjylland started their title defense impressively, winning their first six games, and despite not maintaining that pace, they still led the regular season by four points.
In the playoffs, however, Thomas Thomasberg's side has underperformed, winning just three of eight matches, which caused them to lose the top spot.
The Wolves are now second on 57 points, one behind Copenhagen, and will regret not overtaking the leaders after their 1-1 draw last weekend, where Oliver Sørensen's goal was canceled out seven minutes from time.
This result extended Midtjylland's away winless streak to four games, with two draws and two losses, raising concerns before visiting a venue where they have struggled recently.
Brøndby manager Birk will miss midfielder Noah Nartey, who is suspended for one match after receiving a red card for a second bookable offense in the draw against Nordsjaelland.
The offensive responsibilities will again rest on Mathias Kvistgaarden and Yuito Suzuki, who have scored 16 and 11 goals respectively, topping the team's scoring list this season.
Tobias Bech returns for Midtjylland after his one-match ban for a red card against Aarhus and is set to rejoin Adam Buksa in attack.
Forward Gue-sung Cho is out with a knee injury, and winger Aral Simsir is sidelined due to a muscle issue, limiting Thomasberg's attacking choices for the trip to Brøndby.
Brøndby possible starting lineup:
Pentz; Rasmussen, Alves, Klaiber; Divkovic, Wass, Tahirovic, Sebulonsen; Vallys, Kvistgaarden, Suzuki
FC Midtjylland possible starting lineup:
Lossl; Jensen, M. B. Sorensen, Han-beom, Mbabu; Gogorza, O. Sorensen, Bravo, Osorio; Bech, Buksa
