When Borussia Mönchengladbach secured back-to-back victories against Werder Bremen (4-2) and RB Leipzig (1-0), followed by a draw at St. Pauli, fans might have anticipated a strong end to the season.

However, with only one point from their last five Bundesliga matches, Gerardo Seoane's team enters the final round knowing they can finish no higher than eighth, which would require a win and losses for both Bremen against Heidenheim and Stuttgart against RB Leipzig.

Highlighting their struggles, the Foals have managed just one win in six home games at Borussia-Park, suffering three defeats in that span.

That record could have been better if they had held onto 2-0 and 3-2 leads against Hoffenheim in their last home match, only to lose both advantages before a late Tim Kleindienst equalizer salvaged a draw.

After a 5-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in Lower Saxony, Borussia Mönchengladbach aims to finish the season strongly and disrupt Wolfsburg's poor form.

Ralph Hasenhüttl was dismissed after Wolfsburg's eight-match winless run, which has now stretched to nine games under interim coach Daniel Bauer.

Despite this drought, the Wolves endured a longer barren spell from December 2023 to March 2024, failing to win in 11 straight attempts.

The 12th-placed side's struggles are exacerbated by their inability to keep clean sheets, having not done so since a goalless draw with former champions Bayer Leverkusen in February.

With no clean sheets in 13 Bundesliga games, it will be fascinating to see if Bauer can devise a plan to neutralize Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Having ended a nine-game winless streak against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the away fixture, Wolfsburg now seeks to complete a league double for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

A win for the Wolves, combined with an Augsburg loss to Union Berlin, would allow them to improve on last season's 12th-place finish.

Marvin Friedrich is doubtful for Borussia Mönchengladbach due to a hip issue, while Yvandro Borges Sanches (muscle), Nathan N'Goumou (Achilles), and Moritz Nicolas (groin) are expected to be absent.

Only Harry Kane of Bayern Munich (10), Jonathan Burkardt of Mainz 05 (seven), Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen (six), and Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund (five) have more match-winning goals than Tim Kleindienst's four, and the forward hopes to add to his 16 Bundesliga goals on the final day.

For Wolfsburg, Kilian Fischer (knee) and Marius Müller (illness) are doubtful, while Kevin Paredes (thigh) and Mattias Svanberg (knee) are set to miss out.

Mohammed Amoura and Jonas Wind have contributed 10 and nine goals respectively for Wolfsburg this season, making up 34.5% of the team's total of 55 goals, and both players aim to make an impact on the last day.

Borussia Mönchengladbach possible starting lineup:

Omlin; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich; Reitz, Weigl; Honorat, Plea, Hack; Kleindienst

Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:

Grabara; Roerslev, Vavro, Kouliarakis, Maehle; Vranckx, Arnold; Skov Olsen, Wimmer, Amoura; Wind
