Following a disappointing relegation from the Scottish Premiership last season, where they finished at the bottom of the table and 10 points from safety, Livingston entered this campaign with a strong aim for an immediate return to the top flight.
The Lions have consistently held promotion playoff spots in the Scottish Championship, oscillating between third and second place, ultimately securing a second-placed finish with 70 points from 36 matches, just three points behind champions Falkirk.
This achievement guaranteed David Martindale's side a spot in the semi-finals of the playoffs, where they faced Partick Thistle, and the Lions are thrilled with their first-leg victory.
Livingston traveled to The Energy Check Stadium for the first leg after a 1-0 defeat to Partick Thistle on the final day of the regular season, but Martindale's team took command of the playoff match, securing a decisive 2-0 win to take back home.
Scott Pittman opened the scoring just before halftime, with Danny Wilson adding a second goal shortly after the restart. However, despite their lead, Livingston must remain wary of Partick Thistle's attacking prowess, as the visitors missed several key opportunities in that game.
Partick Thistle are eager to overturn the deficit and advance to the playoff final, determined to avoid a fourth straight elimination in the promotion playoffs.
The Jags were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Caley Thistle in 2021-22, lost on penalties in the final to Ross County in 2022-23, and were defeated on penalties in the semi-finals against Raith Rovers last season.
Facing the possibility of another playoff setback, co-interim managers Brian Graham and Mark Wilson must steer Partick Thistle to only their second away win against Livingston in six visits, with a record of three losses, one draw, and one win in their last five encounters.
