Werder Bremen took a 2-0 lead against Union Berlin in just the first 15 minutes last Saturday, but they managed only three shots inside the box after their second goal, created no major chances, and ultimately drew the match 2-2.

To their credit, the hosts had conceded just once in their previous five games, although they shipped four goals in a 4-2 loss to Leipzig in the reverse fixture on January 12.

A defeat on Saturday would eliminate Ole Werner's side from European qualification contention, while a draw could also dash their hopes if Mainz 05 beats VfL Bochum this weekend.

The Green-Whites have shown outstanding form recently, remaining unbeaten in six games and securing four wins.

At home, Werder Bremen have won two and drawn one of their last three matches at Weserstadion, but they suffered defeats in the three before that, conceding nine goals in total.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig wasted a 2-0 lead in the first half against Bayern Munich and were trailing 3-2 when Leroy Sane scored for the Bavarians, but Xavi Simons set up Yussuf Poulsen for an equaliser in the 95th minute.

Die Roten Bullen have scored three or more goals in three of their last five fixtures, though they have conceded 11 goals during that span.

Zsolt Low's team trails fourth-placed Freiburg by just two points for the final Champions League spot, but a loss on Saturday would end their chase if Freiburg defeats Holstein Kiel.

The visitors arrive at Weserstadion without a win in their last three games—losing one—and have lost three of their past seven, with only two victories in that period.

Low will be concerned about his team's away form, as they have won just two of their last 16 road matches, losing 10, and have failed to score in six of their eight most recent away games.

Werder Bremen's only injury issue is in defense, with center-back Milos Veljkovic out, though Marco Friedl is expected to be available.

Regulars Niklas Stark, Friedl, and Amos Pieper are set to feature in the backline, while Jens Stage, Senne Lynen, and Romano Schmid could line up in midfield.

Oliver Burke and Marvin Ducksch have started together in attack for five of their team's last six games and are likely to be selected again.

For Leipzig, left-back David Raum is suspended, while defenders Benjamin Henrichs and Willi Orban are injured, so Kosta Nedeljkovic, Lukas Klostermann, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, and Castello Lukeba might form the back four.

With midfielders Amadou Haidara and Xaver Schlager injured, and Kevin Kampl suspended, Low may opt for a double pivot of Nicolas Seiwald and Arthur Vermeeren.

Wide attackers Xavi Simons and Ridle Baku could support strikers Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda.

Werder Bremen possible starting lineup:

Zetterer; Stark, Friedl, Pieper; Weiser, Stage, Lynen, Schmid, Agu; Burke, Ducksch

RB Leipzig possible starting lineup:

Gulacsi; Nedeljkovic, Klostermann, Bitshiabu, Lukeba; Baku, Seiwald, Vermeeren, Xavi; Sesko, Openda
