According to official news from the Qatar Football Association, Spanish coach, former Real Madrid and West Ham United coach Lopetegui becomes head coach of Qatar national team, replacing Luis Garcia.
Lopetegui, 58, has coached Porto, Spanish national team, Real Madrid, Wolves and West Ham United. He has been unemployed since leaving West Ham in January this year.
According to previous reports, Lopetegui was invited by a Mexican team and still wanted to coach a Premier League team, but Qatar's plan attracted him and he decided to coach Qatar to continue to impact the 2026 World Cup.
