Davide Frattesi's 88th-minute winner gave Inter Milan a 2-1 victory over hosts Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Bayern were depleted by injuries, including attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, who suffered a hamstring tear last weekend. Inter were also without a number of players.

Kane, looking to add to his tally of 10 Champions League goals this season, should have done better in the 14th minute but his low header was comfortably tipped over by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Kane had an even better chance in the 26th minute and the Bayern fans were practically celebrating when the ball came to him unmarked on the left side of the area. But instead he curled the ball wide of the far post.

Kane fell to his knees with his hands in disbelief.

While Bayern's star striker missed, there was no such mistake for Inter 10 minutes later in a move started and finished by Lautaro.

The Argentina World Cup winner collected the ball in the centre circle and sent Carlos Augusto through on the left. The Brazilian defender crossed for Marcus Thuram, who flicked the ball back to the onrushing Lautaro, who smashed it into the roof of the net.

It was Lautaro's sixth goal in his last four Champions League games.

There were chances for both sides in the second half, but Bayern began to pile on the pressure as the game wore on and their siege finally paid off with a cross to the back post for Konrad Laimer, who flicked the ball over the defenders for Müller to head home from three yards.

Bayern began to think they had won the game, but that left gaps at the back and Nicolò Barella spotted the run of Carlos Augusto, who raced into the box and rolled the ball across for substitute Frattesi to tap home.

The result ended Bayern's 22-match unbeaten run in Europe and kept alive Inter's hopes of returning to the same stadium for the Champions League final on 31 May.

But first they must face Bayern in next Wednesday's return leg at the San Siro, with the winners advancing to either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.

Arsenal thrashed Real Madrid 3-0 in Tuesday's other match to set up a semi-final clash with either Aston Villa or Paris Saint-Germain.
