After securing a 3-0 win over Osasuna on Thursday night, FC Barcelona will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Catalan rivals Girona.

Now, according to SPORT, along with a potential win, Barcelona could stand to benefit financially from this weekend’s La Liga fixture against Girona.

Indeed, Michel’s side evaluating whether to pay a fee to allow Oriol Romeu to play against Barcelona this Sunday at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The veteran midfielder is currently on loan at Girona from Barcelona but is subject to a “fear clause” in his contract which prevents him from playing against his parent club.

However, Girona can bypass this clause by paying €300,000 which they are seriously contemplating at this point.

After all, Michel is facing significant midfield absences ahead of the clash with Barça. Ivan Martin is out for a month with an injury, Donny van de Beek is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards, and John Solis remains doubtful.

“We are evaluating it, and the sporting department will make a final decision in the coming hours,” sources from Girona have stated.

Romeu, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia, returned to the club in the summer of 2023 for €3.5 million after an impressive season under Michel at Girona.

Following a difficult season and with game time likely to be limited under new manager Hansi Flick, Romeu opted to return to Girona on loan this summer. He has played 24 matches for Michel’s team this season and may well end up featuring against Barça come Sunday.
