World Cup Qualifying - Asia | Third Round

South Korea vs Jordan

Match preview

Hong Myung-bo's South Korea are currently unbeaten in their World Cup qualifying group, having won four and drawn three of their seven matches so far.

However, their last two games have both ended in stalemate, including Thursday's 1-1 draw with Oman in which Hwang Hee-chan gave the Taeguk Warriors the lead only for Ali Al Busaidi to equalise 10 minutes from time.

After dropping two points in midweek, Hong's side now sit top of Group B on 15 points and have extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, an impressive run that stretches back to February 2024.

With such a record, the hosts will be confident of picking up another three points this time around, and having last tasted defeat at home in the summer of 2023, South Korea will have the support of their home crowd behind them.

Should the Taeguk Warriors secure their fifth win of the group on Tuesday, they could go six points clear at the top, depending on the outcome of Iraq's match against Palestine.

Meanwhile, Jamal Sellami's Jordan have been in fine form in Group B, and with just three points separating them from their opponents, they will be motivated to produce a strong performance in midweek.

The Chivalry have lost just one of their last eight matches and, after beating Palestine 3-1 on Thursday, are now second on 12 points, although they have a goal difference over third-placed Iraq.

However, Thursday's triumph was their first win in their last seven matches, dating back to a 4-0 thrashing of Oman in World Cup qualifying in October.

Despite avoiding defeat on a regular basis, that dearth of victories may have left Sellami's side lacking in confidence ahead of their clash with the group leaders, but the visitors can take heart from the fact that they are on an eight-match unbeaten run away from the Amman International Stadium.

Jordan will also recall that they were the last team to beat South Korea in an Asian Cup match in 2024, when they ran out 2-0 winners, and if they can repeat that result on Tuesday, they could leapfrog their opponents to the top of the tree before the international break.
