Last night, the 38-year-old Italian football star, Candreva, took to social media and posted a video, officially announcing his retirement from professional football.
In the video shared on social media, Candreva declared the end of his remarkable 20-year career. His football journey began with his debut at Ternana. Then, in the summer of 2007, he made a move to Udinese for a transfer fee of €500,000.
During his stint at Udinese, Candreva experienced several loan spells at clubs like Livorno, Juventus, Parma, and Lazio. Notably, with Lazio during the 2012-13 season, he was part of the team that lifted the Italian Cup. Impressed by his performance, Lazio decided to buy out his contract in 2013.
Come the summer of 2016, Candreva joined Inter Milan for a transfer fee of €22 million. While donning the Inter Milan jersey, he made 151 appearances, finding the back of the net 18 times and providing 31 assists. In the summer of 2021, he transferred to Sampdoria for €2.5 million. Subsequently, he was loaned to Salernitana and eventually made a permanent switch there.
After his contract with Salernitana expired last summer, Candreva remained unattached to any club. Finally, yesterday, he made the announcement of his retirement, thus bringing his two-decade-long professional career to a close.
On the international stage, Candreva made his senior debut for the Italian national team on November 14, 2009. Over the years, he represented Italy in 54 matches, scoring 7 goals and contributing 13 assists. He also had the honor of participating in one World Cup and one European Cup.
