Getafe's Mauro Arambarri scored a last-gasp double to earn a 2-1 victory over 10-man Atletico Madrid on Sunday, as Diego Simeone's side missed a golden opportunity to go top of LaLiga.
With a game in hand, Barcelona lead the table on 57 points, one ahead of Atletico, who dropped to third after Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano last night.
Atletico's Alexander Sorloth came off the bench to convert a 75th-minute penalty after a lengthy VAR review flagged a handball, leaving the home side fuming.
However, seconds after Guillermo Cuadra had shown Atlético's Ángel Correa a straight red card for a studs-up tackle in the 88th minute, Arambarri pounced on the rebound from close range and two minutes into stoppage time, he deflected Diego Rico's shot past goalkeeper Jan Oblak and into the net.
Atlético midfielder Pablo Barrios told DAZN.
"We were doing OK but after [Correa's] red card, with one less player, it got away from us ... Until we scored the goal we had the game under control. With the sending-off we didn't know how to control the result."
Simeone and his team are about to face a more difficult schedule, and this defeat also casts a shadow on their season sprint.
Atlético face old rivals Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, before hosting Barca in LaLiga on Sunday.
