Deutsche Bank Park (Frankfurt am Main)

Frankfurt vs Union Berlin

Match preview

Eintracht Frankfurt conceded three goals between the 26th and 33rd minutes of the first half, and although they managed a consolation goal before the break, they only managed three shots from difficult angles in the second half.

The Eagles also conceded four goals against Bayern Munich in their last league game on 23 February and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight matches in all competitions.

Dino Toppmoller's side did, however, triumph 2-1 over Ajax in the first leg of their Conference League last-16 tie on Thursday, a game in which they found themselves trailing after 10 minutes.

Eintracht Frankfurt's grip on the Champions League qualification spots is now far from secure, with just seven points separating them from 10th-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Toppmoller's side have struggled domestically, losing their last two Bundesliga games and drawing three of their last four.

The defeat to Leverkusen was the Eagles' first at home in six matches - they have won four of those - and they have won 11 of their 17 games at Deutsche Bank Park this season, losing only twice.

Their opponents, however, suffered a potentially damaging defeat at the hands of 17th-placed Holstein Kiel, who occupy the second of two automatic relegation spots, and fans will be concerned that their team failed to create a single clear-cut chance.

The visitors are six points clear of 16th-placed VfL Bochum, who are guaranteed a relegation play-off at the end of the season, but four of their next five games are against the top five.

The Eisernen held Eintracht Frankfurt to a 1-1 draw in the league on 27 October, but failed to score in 11 of their next 17 matches.

Steffen Baumgart's side have lost their last three matches and have now lost 13 of their last 17.

Union's away form is also poor, with eight defeats in their last nine away games, a period in which they have conceded 24 goals.
