According to the Spanish EFE news agency, Pumas U.N.A.M. has taken former Brazilian footballer Dani Alves to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over contract violations.
The Mexican football Club Pumas U.N.A.M. has lodged a lawsuit against Alves at the CAS, accusing him of breaching relevant terms of the labor contract spanning 2022 - 2023.
As per the CAS official website, the hearing for this case has been slated for March 25 local time, and its case number is CAS 2024/A/10733. In January 2023, Alves was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub. Subsequently, the Pumas announced the termination of its contract with him.
In February 2023, the Brazilian media "UOL" reported that the Pumas demanded Alves pay $5 million in compensation, citing his post - arrest violation of the behavioral clauses in the contract. At that time, the Pumas‘ top management refuted this news. However, recent reports from Mexican media indicate that the lawsuit is still being pursued at the CAS.
