Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies scored a last-gasp equaliser to earn Celtic a 1-1 draw on Tuesday and send them through to the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Davies struck in stoppage time after former Bayern Munich reserve Nicolas Kuhn had given the Scots a shock 63rd-minute lead as they looked to overturn a first-leg deficit and win their first game in Germany in 16 attempts.

Having lost the first leg 2-1 in Glasgow, Celtic came agonisingly close to forcing extra time with a gutsy performance that kept the hosts on the back foot for much of the game.

"If you watched the first leg, I don't think it was surprising," said Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka. "Of course we could have made it easier for ourselves by not conceding a goal.

"We have played three games in six days now and it was all about getting results, which we did and we're happy about that."

However, it was Celtic who broke the deadlock with a deserved goal when Kuhn capitalised on two defensive lapses by the home side to put Brendan Rodgers' side in the driving seat.

Bayern upped the tempo and went close through Goretzka and Leroy Sané before Schmeichel pulled off another fine save to deny Joshua Kimmich.

The 'keeper did well to keep out Goretzka's stoppage-time effort, but was helpless when Davies pounced on the rebound to slot the ball over the line and into the knockout stages.

The Bavarians will next face either Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid, depending on the draw on Friday.
