Inter missed out on a chance to go top of Serie A as they lost 1-0 at Juventus on Sunday, with Francisco Conceição scoring a late winner in an action-packed match.

The Portuguese winger sent the stadium into a frenzy after 74 minutes when he was picked out by Randal Kolo Muani's neat through ball before finding Conceição, who slotted home.

Inter failed to capitalise on Napoli's 2-2 draw at Lazio on Saturday and are now two points off the pace with 54 points from 25 games. Juve are now fourth on 46 points.

The stakes were high in the 267th Derby d'Italia, with the reigning champions knowing that an away win would see them finally leapfrog Napoli, while Juve could move into the top four after struggling to find a winning formula for much of the season.

Inter got off to a quick start, with Mehdi Taremi's bicycle kick tipped over by Michele Di Gregorio before Denzel Dumfries tipped the ball over the bar.

Juve responded with Nico Gonzalez forcing Yann Sommer into a double save, first to keep out a long-range effort and then to keep out Conceicao's rebound.

Opportunities continued to present themselves for both sides, with Kolo Muani and Inter striker Lautaro Martinez wasting clear-cut chances by firing over the bar as the half-time interval approached.

Just before the break, Dumfries led another Inter attack into the area, but the Juve defence forced him into a tight angle and his shot hit the post.

Both sides continued to push forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, but it was Conceição who finally broke Inter's resistance to the delight of the home fans.

Juve went close again minutes later when Teun Koopmeiners' shot was cleared off the line by Dumfries.

Inter pushed forward and Marcus Thuram volleyed wide, but they were unable to find a last-gasp equaliser as the title race remained tightly contested with 13 rounds remaining.
