Leganes vs Alaves

Match preview

Leganes have lost each of their last three games in all competitions, including their last two in the league against Rayo Vallecano and Valencia, to drop to 17th in the standings.

Borja Jimenez's side have won five, drawn eight and lost 10 of their 23 league games this season, picking up 23 points to sit just one point clear of 18th-placed Valencia and two ahead of 19th-placed Alaves.

El Lega have taken just 13 points from their 11 league games at home in 2024-25, but they will travel to an Alaves side who have lost eight of their 12 La Liga games.

The reigning Segunda Division champions are bidding for their first successive La Liga title since 2020, but Jimenez's side are firmly locked in a relegation battle at this stage.

Each of the last four La Liga meetings between Leganes and Alaves has ended 1-1, while the points have been shared in five of the last six top-flight encounters.

Alaves have never beaten Leganes in La Liga, so there will be plenty of history on offer this weekend, with seven of their nine top-flight encounters ending in a draw, while Leganes have won twice.

The Blue and Whites have a record of five wins, six draws and 12 defeats from 23 league games this season, leaving them 19th on 21 points and having lost their last two La Liga games to Barcelona and Getafe.

Eduardo Coudet's side took four points from two games against Real Betis and Celta Vigo at the end of January, before putting in an impressive display in a narrow defeat at Barcelona in early February.

The home defeat to Getafe last time out was a setback, however, and Alaves cannot afford to lose back-to-back games against relegation rivals, especially ahead of this weekend's trip to Espanyol.

The Basque side enjoyed an excellent campaign in 2023-24, finishing 10th in the table, and will be looking to secure a third successive season at this level.

Team News

Leganes will be without the services of Enric Franquesa due to a serious knee injury, while Yvan Neyou is suspended following his yellow card against Valencia.

Seydouba Cisse will also be assessed, but the home side will be boosted by the return of Sergio Gonzalez, who missed the last game through suspension.

Munir El Haddadi and Miguel de la Fuente could both start for the home side, with the former possibly playing in wide areas.

For Alaves, Tomas Conechny could be back in contention after recovering from a concussion, but Jesus Owono remains a doubt.

Despite the disappointing result against Getafe, Coudet is expected to resist the temptation to shake up his side, with Toni Martinez and Kike Garcia likely to start up front.

Carlos Martin and Carlos Vicente are also likely to feature, while Ander Guevara is likely to start in central midfield.

Possible starting lineup

Leganes possible starting lineup:
