An injury-time goal from 20-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia earned Real Madrid a hard-fought 3-2 victory over local rivals Leganes in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

Madrid's young defenders struggled early on, allowing Leganes to create chances through Diego Garcia and Oscar Rodriguez, who forced Real goalkeeper Andriy Lunin into two fine saves in the first and fourth minutes.

But Madrid slowly began to take control of the game, with Brazilian teenager Endrick a constant threat up front, although he missed a good chance in the 13th minute.

Modric opened the scoring for Real in the 17th minute with a neat finish from inside the area and Endrick fired home from close range in the 25th minute.

Despite Madrid's dominance, a mistake by Ramon earned Leganes a penalty in the 39th minute. Cruz stepped up to score from the spot with a low left-footed strike that was just beyond the reach of Lunin.

Ancelotti brought Vinicius Junior off the bench after the break and the Brazilian fired wide from close range before Endrick wasted another great chance.

Cruz made it 2-2 when his shot deflected off defender Ferland Mendy and past Lunin, who watched helplessly as the ball slowly crossed the line.

Just when it looked like the game would go into extra time, Diaz made a run down the right flank and crossed for Garcia, who scored his first senior goal for Madrid to send them through to the semi-finals.
