according to the German media "SPORTBUZZER", a new initiative will be piloted in some stadiums in the Bundesliga and the German Second Division this weekend: VAR penalties will be explained by the referee directly through announcements in the stadium.
The media said that referees will explain VAR decisions in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 directly to spectators in the stadium by means of announcements. The project will initially be implemented in nine selected stadiums.
The initiative will be used for the following five matches: Bayern Munich vs. Holstein Kiel, St. Pauli vs. Augsburg, Fortuna Düsseldorf vs. Ulm, Frankfurt vs. Wolfsburg and Leverkusen vs. Hoffenheim. The home stadiums of Dortmund, Freiburg, RB Leipzig and Fürth will also be part of the test phase.
The German Football Association announced that if the referee reviews a decision on a monitor in the review area at the edge of the pitch, or if he changes a decision based on the advice of the video assistant, he will always speak to the crowd to inform them of the result. The referee's words "will also be integrated into the live broadcast of media partners".
"We want to make the VAR system better and more transparent," said Max Eberl, member of the DFL's "Football" committee and Bayern's sporting director. To enable communication between referees and assistants, a radio connection has been established between the various stadiums and the video assistants in Cologne. For the new stadiums, the referee only needs to activate the connection to the loudspeakers in the respective stadium to make the announcement.
