Signal-Iduna-Park

Dortmund vs Werder Bremen

Match preview

Sahin's tenure ended miserably, with five defeats, three draws and just one win in his final nine games in charge, with each of the last four games ending in defeat.

Dortmund created two great chances against Eintracht Frankfurt, but although they showed flashes of brilliance in the final third, their poor defending cost them the chance to win.

In fact, the hosts have conceded 11 goals in their last four matches, including twice in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna, a game which saw Sahin sent off.

BVB U-19 coach Mike Tullberg takes charge on Saturday and the 39-year-old will be hoping his side can do better than the 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture on 31 August.

Tullberg's side have scored 32 goals and conceded 31 in the Bundesliga this season, making them the sixth-best attacking and tenth-best defensive team in the division.

The home side have failed to win their last four home games, drawing two and losing two, although they have won their previous 11 at Signal Iduna Park.

As for the visitors, they failed to create a single real chance against Augsburg, despite scoring 11 times in their previous four outings.

However, boss Ole Werner will be concerned that his side have conceded nine goals in their last three matches and that their 34 Bundesliga goals conceded is the fifth-worst return in the top flight.

It is worth noting that the Green and Whites have conceded just 25.2 xG this term, the ninth-best average of the league's 18 clubs.

The visitors are winless in their last three games - two defeats and a draw - but have won their previous four matches by a combined score of 8-1.

Werder Bremen's away form has been mixed, with two wins and three defeats in their last five away matches.

Team News

Dortmund's injury crisis is almost over, with centre-back Niklas Sule the only absentee, so expect Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton to start at the heart of defence.

Felix Nmecha and Emre Can could be candidates for a double pivot, as the duo could provide mobility and defensive cover in front of the back four.

Up front, striker Serhou Guirassy and winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are certain to feature, with Julian Brandt and Maximilian Beier likely to join them.

Opponents Werder Bremen will be without midfielder Felix Agu until the beginning of February, so Jens Stage and Senne Lynen may be called upon to partner each other in midfield.

Defender Julian Malatini is expected to make his comeback from a muscle injury by the middle of next month, and in his absence Niklas Stark, Marco Friedl and Anthony Jung could start in a back three.

Striker Keke Topp has been ruled out with an ankle injury, meaning Romano Schmid and Marco Grull could join Marvin Ducksch up front.

Possible starting lineup

Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup:

Kobel; Ryerson, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Can, Nmecha; Beier, Brandt, Bynoe-Gittens; Guirassy

Werder Bremen possible starting lineup:

Zetterer; Stark, Friedl, Jung; Weiser, Stage, Lynen, Kohn; Schmid, Grull; Ducksch
