Nice has been eliminated from the UEFA Europa League after losing 1-0 to Swedish side Elfsborg on Thursday night. They failed to win any UEFA Europa League games so far this season, and early elimination is a foregone conclusion.
As for the qualification for next season's European competition, Nice has been in good form on the domestic field this season, currently ranked fifth in Ligue 1, and they have the hope of directly qualifying for next season's European competition through the league ranking.
But Nice did not bring a full lineup for this game, and there was an air of resignation in the Nice lineup. Hicham Boudaoui, Tanguy Ndombélé and Gaëtan Laborde were all left back on the Côte d’Azur, and seemed to be resting, while the starting goalkeeper was Maxime Dupé instead of Marcin Bulka.
Dupé was beaten by Gustav Henriksen midway through the second half. Although Nice tried to get back into the game and maintain their slim 2% chance of qualification, they could not equalize or win the game. As a result, they were eliminated with one round left, accumulating only 2 points from 7 games with 2 draws and 5 losses, ranking second from the bottom.
