24 hours after the success of Napoli, Inter ignited the Serie A title race by beating Empoli 3-1. At the San Siro, all the goals came in the second half, with Lautaro, Dumfries and Thuram. The goal from former Inter striker Esposito was just a face-saving goal.

In the first half, the game was almost exclusively played in Empoli's half, but Inter failed to return to the locker room with a lead.
