Coupe de France | Round of 32

Jan 14, 2025 at 7.45pm UK

Stade Auguste-Delaune II

Reims vs Monaco

Match preview

A strong final 30 minutes at the Parc des Sports last month saw Stade de Reims progress to the next stage of the competition for the fourth successive season.

Victory on Tuesday will see Les Rouges et Blancs reach the last 16 for the third time in the last four Coupe de France editions.

They had a difficult start to 2025, losing their only two Ligue 1 games of the year and conceding seven goals in the process.

That is a far cry from the way Luka Elsner's side finished 2024, conceding just once in their final three matches of the year.

They go into this encounter on a five-match winless run at the Stade Auguste Delaune, having failed to find the back of the net in their last two games in Reims.

Stade de Reims won their only previous Coupe de France home game against the Principality club, a 2-0 victory in 1977, and won that last-16 tie 6-2 on aggregate.

Les Monegasques had no trouble with their amateur opponents in December, scoring 12 goals in their opening match of the competition.

That game was one of the few bright spots for the club in recent times, as it was their only win in their previous six matches in all competitions.

Monaco have not been eliminated at this stage of the Coupe de France since Metz's 3-1 triumph over them in 2019.

Adi Hutter's men have lost just one of their last four competitive matches as visitors, a 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Trophee des Champions in Qatar.

They have not lost an away game in normal time in the Coupe de France since the 2017 semi-finals, when PSG recorded a 5-0 triumph over them at the Parc des Princes.

The Principality club are unbeaten in their last six visits to the Stade Auguste-Delaune against Reims, having won their last Coupe de France encounter against them in 2020 (2-1).

Team News

A cruciate ligament injury will keep Reda Khadra out of the Reims side for a few months, while Abdoul Kone and Amadou Kone are doubtful with hamstring injuries.

It has been a busy transfer window for them, with Emmanuel Agbadou sold to Wolves, Thibault De Smet moving to Ligue 2 side Paris FC and a reported bid for Lyon's Mamadou Diawara.

Gabriel Moscardo, who was on international duty with Brazil at the weekend, scored the opener against Still-Mutzig, while Mamadou Diakhon and Nhoa Sangui also netted.

In the Principality, former Reims striker Folarin Balogun is out with a dislocated shoulder, Krepin Diatta is doubtful with a muscle strain, Christian Mawissa has a hamstring injury, Aleksandr Golovin may be ruled out with an ankle problem and Radoslaw Majecki is close to a return from an adductor problem.

A groin problem could keep George Ilenikhena out on Tuesday, while Takumi Minamino missed the weekend's match due to illness, while the club officially signed Mike Biereth from Sturm Graz earlier this week.

Eliesse Ben Seghir opened the scoring against L'Union Saint-Jean, while Ilenikhena, Jordan Teze and Vanderson also found the net.
