After rejecting a move to Colombian side Junior de Barranquilla, everything points to James Rodríguez set to embark on the next chapter of his career in Mexican football. Liga MX side Club León have reportedly closed the deal with the player for a million-dollar and the central player is set to arrive in Mexico in a number of days. The Colombian star is currently in Italy watching the final of the Kings World Cup Nations and is expected to travel from Turin to Leon.

According to Mexico’s TUDN, James is expected to arrive in León, Guanajuato, next week to join his new team. The outlet claim that he “could even be eligible” for Saturday’s game against Atlas in Guadalajara on January 18 for the second matchday of the new Liga MX season.

James' contract with León is expected to run for 2025 which would take in both Clausura and Apertura short tournaments and the reports suggest that both parties have agreed to the possibility of extending the deal for another 12 months.

Club Leon are one of the Mexican representatives at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the priority for player is to secure continuous first team football so as to be in contention for a place at the 2026 World Cup with the Colombian national team. James only managed to play in seven games for LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano with the 33-year-old failing to fit in with the tactical plans of head coach Iñigo Perez.
