Las Palmas vs Getafe
Match preview
Diego Martinez has done a great job as head coach of Las Palmas since being appointed at the start of October. In his 12 matches in charge, the team has won eight, which is a big improvement on their difficult start to the 2024-25 campaign.
Pio Pio ended 2024 in great form in La Liga, getting 10 points out of 12, with that run including a 2-1 win over Barcelona, and they're currently in 13th place in the table.
Los Amarillos are actually only three points behind seventh-placed Real Sociedad, which is pretty impressive considering their struggles at the start of the season. They'll be gunning for a seventh league win of the campaign on Sunday afternoon.
Martinez's team will enter this match off the back of a defeat, going down 4-0 to Elche in the Copa del Rey, meaning that they now only have the league to focus on in the second half of the campaign.
Las Palmas have only won four of their 14 matches against Getafe in all competitions, but they recorded a 2-0 success when the two teams met during the 2023-24 campaign.
Getafe, meanwhile, are currently sitting in 17th place in the table, with three wins, seven draws and eight losses from their 18 matches. They're only one point ahead of the relegation zone going into the latest gameweek.
Jose Bordalas's side have the third-best defensive record in La Liga this season, having conceded only 15 times, but they've got the worst attacking record, scoring just 11 goals.
It's easy to see why Getafe are struggling this term, but they'll enter this match off the back of a win, beating Granada 1-0 in the Copa del Rey on January 3 to secure a spot in the last-16 stage of the competition.
But Getafe ended 2024 with back-to-back 1-0 losses to Atletico Madrid and Mallorca in La Liga, and they've only picked up three points from their last four matches in the top flight of Spanish football.
The Deep Blue Ones have only picked up two points from their eight away league matches this season, scoring only three times, while Las Palmas have 12 points from their nine home games.

Team News
Las Palmas will be without Viti and Daley Sinkgraven due to injury, but the home side are otherwise in strong shape for their opening La Liga match of 2025.
Martinez made a few changes against Elche in the last Copa del Rey match, but the big hitters, like Kirian Rodriguez, Mika Marmol, Jasper Cillessen and Alex Suarez, will be back in action here.
Fabio Silva is set to feature through the middle, while Marvin Park should be back in an advanced area, having dropped back to right-back for the Copa del Rey contest on 5 January.
As for Getafe, Diego Rico is out of the contest through suspension, while Allan Nyom is absent through injury, but Borja Mayoral and Carles Alena were both involved against Granada after returning from recent injuries.
The visitors will be careful about Mayoral's fitness, given his recent injury problems, so the Spaniard could start on the bench again, but Alena may take advantage of Nyom's absence to start.
David Soria is also set to return between the sticks, having been rested in the Copa del Rey, but Coba should keep his spot down the right for the capital outfit this weekend.
Possible starting lineup
Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Cillessen; Munoz, Suarez, McKenna, Marmol; Essugo, Campana, K Rodriguez; Park, F Silva, Ramirez
Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Dakonam, Alderete, Duarte; Arambarri, Milla; Alena, Uche, Coba; Yildirim
