Man City's Kevin De Bruyne was critical of the club's supporters for their reaction to West Ham's goal during City's 4-1 victory on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola's side have now won back-to-back games for the first time since late October but there was a drop in volume levels at the Etihad and a feeling of nervousness around the ground when Niclas Fullkrug pulled one back for the Hammers in the second half.
City have suffered high-profile collapses in recent months, blowing a 3-0 lead to Feyenoord at home in the Champions League in November and then seeing Man Utd grab a late 2-1 turnaround win at the stadium in December.
"I don't know why," said De Bruyne when asked about the crowd's reaction. "I can understand that we are not up to the level but they should [be] supporting us. The effort is there, 100 per cent, and we're still winning 4-1, so I don't understand what is happening.
"It's not like they created a lot of chances either. It is what it is. The team gave maximum effort. The level has to be higher but we understand that."
