Manchester United have been mediocre this season. After former manager ten Hag was fired, the team's record has not improved significantly. They have struggled in the final third, scoring only 21 goals, and their defensive record is unconvincing.
Under new manager Ruben Amorim, there have been problems with the left wing-back position. Diogo Dalot and Tyril Malacia often play in this role, but have performed poorly. Luke Shaw is injured again and Manchester United needs an upgrade.
The January transfer window is about to open, and perhaps AC Milan's Theo Hernandez is a viable option. Hernandez's current contract with the Rossoneri expires in 2026. No progress has been made on a contract extension with his agent.
Milan Live recently reported that the possibility of his departure is "very high" and Manchester United is "ready to launch an attack" to sign him.
His relationship with Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has also become strained. The Red Devils have a great opportunity to take advantage of this.
Hernandez is a perfect fit at left wing-backThe French international has been a key player for the Rossoneri. Hernandez performed well in the 2023/24 season, contributing 16 goals in 46 games. The left-back continues to be in good form this season.
He can provide a balance of attack and defense at Manchester United's left wing-back position.
Milan values him at around £41 million, but Manchester United could use his contract deadlock to negotiate a lower transfer fee when the transfer window reopens.
Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has identified him as his top target. If Manchester United cannot afford a permanent contract, a loan deal with a buyout requirement next summer could be reached.
