Match preview
The match between the hosts and Dortmund was a game of few chances, with each side creating just one real chance, and it should be noted that Borussia Monchengladbach's only real chance came from the penalty spot in the 71st minute.
Coach Gerardo Seoane was pleased with his side's defensive display, but was disappointed with his players' performance in the final third, telling reporters: "I don't really have any complaints about the way we defended. I'm less happy with our attacking performance; we made too many technical errors and didn't take advantage of good situations.
The Fohlen are three points behind sixth-placed Borussia Dortmund and fifth-placed Wolfsburg, who occupy the Conference League and Europa League qualifying spots respectively.
Seoane's side are winless in their last two matches, but have lost just once in their last five outings, winning two, scoring eight and conceding five.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have a strong home record, having won four and drawn one of their last five games at Borussia Park.
Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel failed to take advantage of a struggling RB Leipzig side who had lost three of their previous four league games, wasting two good chances and 17 shots on target against the Roten Bullen.
Leipzig boss Marcel Rapp will be concerned that his side have already conceded 33 goals in the Bundesliga, the second-worst defensive record in the top flight.
Holstein Kiel are five points behind 16th-placed Heidenheim, who are in the relegation zone, and six points behind 15th-placed St. Pauli.
Rapp's side are in poor form, having lost seven and won just one of their last eight matches.
The visitors' away record is also worrying, having lost their last four, drawn two and lost one of their previous three.

Team News
Borussia Monchengladbach have two confirmed injury absentees, with midfielders Florian Neuhaus and Grant-Leon Ranos ruled out, although the former is close to a return.
Tim Kleindienst is almost certain to start at striker, while Rocco Reitz and Philipp Sander are likely to partner Julian Weigl in midfield.
Winger Tomas Cvancara is also suspended, and with defender Luca Netz a doubt, Joseph Scally, Nico Elvedi, Ko Itakura and Lukas Ullrich could start in a back four.
Holstein Kiel centre-backs Colin Kleine-Bekel and Marco Komenda, as well as full-back Timo Becker, will not be available on Saturday.
Fellow defender Patrick Erras is unlikely to feature after suffering a concussion, and their absence could see Rapp opt for a back three of Marko Ivezic, Marvin Schulz and Max Geschwill.
Lasse Rosenboom and Finn Porath could be called upon at full-back, while Armin Gigovic, Magnus Knudsen and Nicolai Remberg could start in the centre of the park.
Possible starting lineup
Borussia Monchengladbach possible starting lineup:
