Any efforts to delay the creation of an independent football regulator are "not acceptable", Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has warned.
On Monday former Labour cabinet minister Lord Blunkett accused its opponents of lobbying on behalf of the Premier League and trying to "filibuster" the passage of the Football Governance Bill through the House of Lords.
Blunkett said peers who were against the Bill were talking it out, as it reached its fourth day in committee, and taking briefings from the Premier League.
Nandy was asked about apparent attempts to filibuster the Bill at a Culture, Media and Sport committee evidence session on Tuesday.
"This is a Bill that has had cross-party support consensus for a long time, it was a manifesto commitment from this Government and it is high time we got on with it," she said.
"It is not acceptable to use parliamentary procedures to try to block a piece of legislation on which so many hopes and dreams rest, which was clearly something that we committed to before the election and which my counterpart Stuart Andrew and the Conservative front bench fully support still.
"So my message would be that we need to get on with this for the sake of football and out of respect for the fans."
