Blue Jays a shocking candidate to swing blockbuster trade for 2-time All-Star

The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason in 2024 but seem to have an aggressive approach in free agency. Even if they don't land a player like Juan Soto, they could pull off a trade for another superstar.
While listing teams that could trade for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams, FanSided's Eric Treuden noted that the Blue Jays could swipe the superstar.
"After non-tendering both Jordan Romano and Dillon Tate, Toronto is going to rely on Chad Green and Erik Swanson, two non-closers, to man the eighth and/or ninth innings in 2025," wrote Treuden. "Williams would give the Blue Jays a significant upgrade in the back-end of the pen, but the biggest problem here is that Toronto's farm system is barren and the Brewers may have a tough time finding pieces the Blue Jays' front office is willing to part with. There's simply not much there."
While it may seem like Williams will demand a haul, that may not be the case. He has just one year left on his contract and has a history of injuries and postseason struggles. On the other hand, he has proven to be one of the best closers in Major League Baseball. Williams is a two-time All-Star and two-time National League Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year.
Spotrac projects Williams to sign a five-year, $70 million deal in free agency after next season. The Brewers do not generally hand out those types of contracts and have traded star pitchers before they hit free agency in the past. They did so with both Josh Hader and Corbin Burnes.
